BIO

Influenced by notable artists, such as Big Thief, Elliott Smith, and Damien Rice, Alara went back to her singer-songwriter roots after years of experimenting sonically. “Lyrics have always been the most important thing for me. This is the first time I feel that I’m honoring the lyrics by letting them take centerstage.”

After a significant length of time feeling the frustration of writer’s block, Alara moved to Brooklyn and immediately felt a burst of creativity. “I wrote all the songs on the EP in a matter of only a few months. And even after that, I kept writing. Change truly makes for a great writing partner.” She befriended Canadian musician Sam Cash, via Raya, who connected her with Toronto-based producer and guitarist Jasper Smith. “We recorded 8 songs in about a week. Just like the writing process, it all came together very quickly. “Nice to Know You” may have been the most intuitive one.” Alara then recorded vocals for “Nice to Know You” in Philadelphia with producer Steven LaFashia, who also mixed the track.

Alara plans to release one more single ahead of her debut EP, set to come out early Spring. The music video for “Nice to Know You” will also premiere alongside the single, on January 26.
